Tool Library Closed on Saturday due to Unhealthy Air Situation

We’ve made a last minute decision to close the library tomorrow, Sep 12, to protect our volunteers and members from the miserable air conditions that are out there.  A few of you have already signed up, and we will make a good-faith effort to see that you get what you have reserved, but further reservations will not be accepted.  Thanks for your patience.

Tool Library Closed for the Fourth of July

The Vashon Tool Library will be closed on Saturday, July 4th.  Any tools that are due on that date can be returned the next week, with no late fees.

Tool Library Reopening Scheduled for May 16th

The Vashon Tool Library will begin offering tools to check out to our members on a limited basis beginning on May 16.  We will be open on Saturdays from 9 to noon and Wednesdays from 5 to 8 PM.    A completely new set of procedures has been developed to adhere closely to the COVID-19 guidelines.  Our transactions will now be completely online as much as possible, to minimize direct contact between our volunteers and the members.  Go to our special COVID-19 webpage for detailed directions on how to proceed.

Tool Library to be closed until at least May 2nd

In response to updated warnings from the state re the coronavirus situation, we are continuing the closure of the Vashon Tool Library until at least May 2nd.  Like so many of us, we at the library are waiting and watching developments and trying to manage our response based on the latest information.  Things are quite uncertain now, but later in April we might be able to see a bit more clearly.  We will send bulletins by email and also post to our websites with the latest as soon as we can.  Comments and inquiries can be sent to info@vashontools.org.  Thank you for your patience and take care and be safe.

The Vashon Tool Library will be closed on Saturday, July 20, for the Strawberry Festival. Vashon Highway is closed on that morning for the parade. so the library is inaccessible. The library will be open Sunday the 21st at the usual times, 2 to 5 PM.

Summer Arts Fest: July 12 Art Exhibitions

Gordon R Barnett’s collection of 200 unique bells will be ringing in all their glory in the VCA Gift Shop. Vashon MakerSpace a place where islanders can create, learn and share their art, will be represented by a diverse exhibition of  ten (10) artists.

A wide selection of GRB Bells, silver & bronze that are cast using traditional lost wax methods along with many contemporary refinements in technology. His designs are responsive to many sources including; nature & symbols; numerical concepts & architecture; mythology & sacred geometry.

Vashon MakerSpace group show (multimedia)
The goal of this show is to encourage those with skills and knowledge to enrich other by sharing and celebrating their expertise and ideas. Collection includes wood work, cement formed face sculptures, jewelry, pottery, artistry illustrating First Nations stories and Indigenous wisdom. Curated by Neil Wiesblott, this exhibit includes art by Bob Powell, James Chesney, Jeff Berend, Jude Spaith, Lee Beck, Maria Higuera, Mary Rose O’Reilley, Odin Lonning, Steve Caldwell, Steve Schllossman.

Chainsaw Fundamentals Class June 2



The Vashon Makerspace will present a chainsaw fundamentals class on Sunday, June 2nd, from 2 to 4 PM in the Gallery at the O Space, 18870 103rd Ave SW.  The class is a broad introduction to chainsaw use.  It covers the care and maintenance of the chainsaw, basic chainsaw safety, techniques of use, and tips on how to handle a variety of situations that islanders may encounter after a storm or windfall.  This is a classroom demonstration event, there will be no field work or hands-on chainsaw work.  We will also cover some of the additional emergency equipment that is available through the Vashon Tool Library.

Holiday closures on Dec 26, Jan 2

The Vashon Tool Library will be closed on Wednesday, Dec 26th, and Wednesday, January 2, to give our volunteers a holiday break. It will be open on the weekends before and after those dates.
