Calling all Makerspace and Tool Library members and supporters Join the Makerspace/Tool Library Drill Team and help make this year’s Strawberry Festival Parade entry our best one yet. We get a little bigger and a little better every year. What a great way to show your support and promote the library and makerspace. It’s loose. It’s casual. it’s FUN! We meet this Saturday in the staging area on the highway south of town at 10:15 AM, do a little “organizing” (I use the term loosely), Parade starts at 11 and winds up by noon.We walk about 1.5 miles, periodically performing our “routine”. If you have a rechargeable drill bring it along, if not we have some from the library. We need banner carriers as well.  Wear comfortable walking shoes and any tool / handyperson / tradesperson attire you wish. We will have some safety vests and hardhats to round out our “uniform” I will email final directions Thursday evening after I get our entry number from the parade organizers.  Please reply with a phone number so we can communicate as needed on Saturday morning. The next fixit cafe has been scheduled for Saturday, May 12 from 10 to 2 at the Eagles’ building at 18134 Vashon Highway SW.  This event is co-sponsored by the Vashon Makerspace/Tool Library, Zero Waste Vashon, the King County Library system and the Eagles.  Admission is free.

Bring your broken household items to be repaired.  There will be experienced repair people available to help you.  Go to vashonfixit.com to sign up to participate, either as a fixer or to get things repaired.  Basic information about the procedures and the kinds of items that are acceptable are on the website and on the Fixit Cafe Poster 

 

Some yard art I created at the beginning of the summer. I used a draw knife from the library to clean the uprights (which were obtained from the Vashon Forest Stewards) and a large diameter skill saw – also from the library – to cut the poles to length. You might be interested to know that the ‘bell’ is the original crash guard for the gas pumps that used to be at the Dockton Store.

As in previous years, the Vashon Tool Library will be closed on Saturday, July 22nd for the Strawberry Festival.  Because of the parade, the road is closed most of the morning.  We will be open regular hours on Sunday from 2 to 5 PM.
